Artist Bio

Baaba Sarpong is a contemporary artist who draws inspiration from her childhood traumatic experiences. Although she was born and raised in Accra, where she currently works, she is from Senya Beraku, located in the Central Region of Ghana.

Her paintings usually incorporate raw and passionate images and elements such as brain cells (as motif) and organic materials and hues.

Through the use of traditional painting techniques and the exploration of the female figurative subject, she invites you to consider how your own traumatic experiences have influenced your perspectives. She also explores themes on femininity, mental health and household trauma (specifically parental neglect) and its impact on our identities.

She titles her works in her native language “Effutu”, to promote the value of our languages and to encourage you to value your individuality.

Baaba has won honors for her artistic abilities and has participated in several shows at the National Museum of Ghana, The Mix Design Hub Gallery and other art spaces.

As a dedicated Artist and Advocate, she hopes to inspire you to confront your own traumas and embark on a journey towards Self-love and Healing.
